2A- Bug List

My Bug List

1.      Something that has bugged me lately is that the CVS under my apartment is starting to close at 10 pm. When I first moved in it was open 24 hours and it was the perfect place to grab midnight snacks, then it started closing at midnight, and now 10 pm. It’s a shame. – The reason why CVS closes so early now is due to the store not making enough money.

2.      Recently my friend and I tried to go to Taco Bell near campus only to find that it EB in the short time before summer classes. – I found out due to the location of the Taco Bell not allowing drive-throughs and the business was slow they decided to close it down.

3.      I heard that midtown was being demolished and that bothered me for multiple reasons. Relish Burgers is going to be closed down also Big Larry’s subs and a lot of great food places. But what upsets me the most is the history that’s going to be destroyed. Midtown has been a part of UF’s culture for so long and it’s a shame it will have to go. – The reason why midtown is being demolished is so more apartments can be made for the large influx of students arriving at UF.

4.      Even though my class is a bio lecture it is in the physics hall, which is a 30 min walk from my apartment, also the class is at 8 am.- Due to it being a summer class they’re not enough students to justify the use of a larger closer auditorium like Carlton.

5.      The amount of love bugs in the air is causing me to have to wash my car every other day and it is getting extremely monotonous making me not want to drive my car. -Due to it being summer its just lovebug season which lasts four weeks.

6.      The traffic light to get onto campus at University takes incredibly long causing people to wait an upwards of 6 mins just to get on campus. - University is an extremely busy intersection which is why the wait times are long at points.

7.      Nearly every food place on campus is closed Summer A.- Summer A does not have enough students to justify having all food services open.

8.      The elevator at my apartment complex is disgusting because some drunk students threw up in the elevator and they still haven’t cleaned it up yet. – Maintenance must be swamped and has not had the opportunity to clean it yet.

9.      The series finale to the new Game of Thrones season was extremely disappointing and seems rushed without care put into the writing. - The writers of the show ran out of books to base their material on in season 5, so at this point they just wanted the show to end.

10.   I have been in a writer’s block for days and it bugs me because I really would like to work on some music, but I have no inspiration. -  I think that I have been putting too much unnecessary pressure on myself and I need to just calm down and enjoy making music.

11.  There is barely any fun activities on campus to do so the weekends during summer A tend to be lackluster. – As said before maybe they’re not enough students to have a lot of activities or maybe I am not searching hard enough.

12.  There was a mold infestation at my apartment complex, so it smelled like industrial cleaning solution and mold for days. – The people living in apartments with mold were extremely negligent and did not take care of their apartment properly.

13.  The plumbing under my sink recently started leaking and would have exploded if I did not call maintenance. – It was due to the maintenance not tightening the screws of the plumbing well enough.

14.  The pool at my apartment complex has been disgusting lately. Bugs all over the pool with an extremely heavy chlorine smell. The maintenance is swamped with work right now and are trying to take care of as many things as possible but get backed up at points.

15.  The hot water in my shower did not work for a couple days, I am thankful that I have the luxury of showers in the first place, but cold showers are extremely uncomfortable. – The hot water boiler in the apartment was acting up and needed to be fixed.

16.  The amount of food I see being wasted by restaurants every day is appalling, there has to a better way to handle all that unused food. - Restaurants are constantly getting new and fresh ingredients in order to cook the best quality food, however, that unused food is thrown away instead of donated.

17.  The amount of trash I see on the streets really shows how little some young adults care about their carbon footprint. Young adults have the tendency to think that “oh it is only one plastic bottle.” Without realizing the damage, they are doing to the environment.

18.  The parking in Gainesville is still horrible even in the summer, also people are parking in decal spots but don’t have decals or handicapped stickers. - Because its summer people think that the parking rules are less strict and that they won’t get towed.

19.  Every night I get woken up by the multiple sirens that constantly blast by my window. - I live near UF health and the UF hospital so I am constantly hearing emergency vehicles everywhere.

20.  The prices at the CVS near me were increased lately making it harder to shop there for the essentials. – Because the store is not making as much money as it is supposed too, they have to raise prices in order to reach their quota.

Conclusion

This assignment started out as easy but then became extremely difficult. The reason why is I usually try to stay as optimistic as possible. This assignment was focusing on the negative things around me so, I had to change my way of thinking and be more observant about the things around me. I had to look at every opportunity in my environment and think critically about it. Which was hard for me to do because I usually just block everything out. But overall I am happy to have opened my mind a little more to be conscious of my environment.
